El Nopal is a full-service Mexican restaurant tucked into Stonegate Center in Valley Park, offering straightforward, hearty meals that lean into traditional flavors without fuss. The atmosphere strikes a balance between casual and comfortable, making it a common spot for families, local workers grabbing lunch, and regulars who come back for familiar, reliable dishes.

The menu highlights include a variety of classic Mexican plates like the Steak Ranchero, Pollo Mexicano, and Shrimp Chimichanga, while lunch specials such as the Lunch Chicken Nacho and Lunch Steak Fajita provide quick, satisfying options for mid-day visitors. Many locals seem partial to the Cassandra Special, a filling dish combining shrimp, steak, and chicken over rice with melted cheese and a splash of green hot sauce that adds some punch without overwhelming the palate.

Margaritas come up frequently in conversations here—balanced and approachable rather than overly strong, they complement the meal well, especially for those settling in for dinner or a relaxed weekend night out. Chips and salsa are an expected staple, with freshly fried chips that aren’t too thick, serving as a solid opener for whatever main course you choose.

The service is often remarked upon for being efficient and welcoming, whether you’re there for a quick lunch—where food can arrive in under five minutes—or a leisurely dinner that involves a specialty order handled without hassle. The staff’s familiarity with regular customers adds to the low-key neighborhood feeling.

El Nopal is well suited for folks looking for genuine Mexican flavors in a no-pressure setting — whether you're grabbing a quick bite or sharing a meal with family or friends. The best time to visit might be lunchtime on a weekday when the pace is brisk but the kitchen still produces consistently fresh dishes, or on weekend evenings when the margaritas help accentuate the relaxed vibe. It’s a comfortable spot where the food portion sizes and the casual service meet the expectations of Valley Park’s locals without pretense.

Very good. Hubby and I had the Cassandra special which was shrimp, steak and chicken over rice covered with cheese. It was amazing. Not sure how we've never eaten here before!! You have to try this place if you are ever in st. Louie. Margaritas were awesome too. Very well balanced!!

Reasonable prices, especially @ lunch. The service is usually pretty quick(my lunch came out in under 5 minutes). I do think their salsa is good, and the chips aren't too thick.

The service was great, and I was even able to get a specialty order without any hassle. Margaritas were also very tasty, not too strong, but also noticeably weak. Had a great time, will definitely visit again.

Watch my food slowly disappear… It was too good to not eat. The service was so good! My family and I come here all of the time, and we love this place.

Pretty good food for a good price. And you get a lot. People are nice and they do well with big parties.
